Women's Soccer Falls to Appalachian State, 2-0
09.23.2008 | Women's Soccer
The Bulldogs played very well in the first ten minutes of the game as they controlled the ball well and recorded several shots on goal.
Senior forward Robyn Busha appeared to have scored the game opening goal in the 10th minute, but she pushed off of an Appalachian State defender and was called for a foul.
The Mountaineers went ahead 1-0 in the 15th minute after junior defender Lauren Bouffard scored from the right side of the penalty area off of an assist from senior midfielder Amy Zahirski.
Ten minutes into the second half, Appalachian struck again on a goal from senior forward Casey that was also assisted by Zahirksi.
Even after falling behind by two goals, the Bulldogs remained on the attack, but could not get the ball past Appalachian sophomore goalie Caroline Clark.
Overall, the Bulldogs outshot the Mountaineers 14-7 and had two corner kick opportunities to the Mountaineers' zero.
Head coach Michele Cornish was disappointed in the outcome considering the number of shots the Bulldogs took in the match.
“We played well for the first ten minutes of the game, but nothing after that” said Cornish. “One positive was that we outshot them 14-7, but our shot selection was not great and we had a lot of difficulty connecting on passes.”
The loss drops UNC Asheville to 3-6-1 and ends a three-game winning streak. Appalachian State improves to 4-2-1.
