COOKEVILLE, TENN. - UNC Asheville sophomore forward Katy Beeler scored a goal from 30 yards out with less than a minute remaining in the second half to give the Bulldogs a 2-1 win over Tennessee Tech.
The Golden Eagles (1-8-0) took a 1-0 lead into halftime when sophomore Ashley Smith got her own rebound and passed the ball to Senior Rebecca Ross, who slotted the ball past Asheville goalie Veronica Lazar. It was the first goal of the season for Ross.
Asheville freshman Leilani Halkiotis equalized the score at the 57:46 mark after she dribbled all of the way from the halfway line into the Golden Eagles' penalty area and kicked the ball by goalie Kaitlyn Thacker.
The Bulldogs outshot the Golden Eagles 23-13 and both teams took three corner kicks.
The win gave the Bulldogs (3-5-1) their third straight victory after going winless in their first six matches.
The Bulldogs return to action on Sept. 23 at home against mountain rival Appalachian State.
