ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville women's soccer team opens Big South Conference play when the Bulldogs welcome league newcomer Presbyterian to Greenwood Field Wednesday afternoon starting at 4 p.m. Admission is free. The match can be seen via video-streamed for a small fee at www.bigsouthsports.com.
UNC Asheville hopes to build on its momentum from Sunday's exciting victory at Jacksonville. The Bulldogs trailed 2-0 at halftime but rallied for a 3-2 overtime win against the Dolphins. Florida native Lindsey Bragg led the Asheville comeback. She scored her first career goal to cut the lead to 2-1. Senior Robyn Busha tallied her second goal of the season to tie the match at 2-2.
In overtime, Bragg scored her second goal of the contest to give the Bulldogs the dramatic victory. Asheville is 1-5-1 on the season. McKenna Stockhausen contributed two assists in the win.
“I was real proud of our team for finding a way to come back and get a victory,” commented Bulldog coach Michele Cornish. “I like the fact that a lot of players stepped up and made contributions. Hopefully, we can use this match as a springboard to some more success.”
Asheville faces a Presbyterian team that is much better than its 1-5-0 overall record shows. The Blue Hose have lost three matches by just one goal and own a 2-0 win over Belmont.
“Presbyterian has faced a tough schedule but battled every team it has played,” declared Cornish. “We're going to have to be at our best to win this match.”
