Women?s Soccer Claims First Victory at Jacksonville

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.?Lindsay Bragg scored two goals including the game-winner in the 107th minute to give UNC Asheville a 3-2 overtime victory over Jacksonville on Sunday afternoon.
The victory was the first of the year for the Bulldogs (1-5-1) who scored more than one goal for the first time this season. Jacksonville dropped to 1-4-1 on the season.
The Dolphins took the lead in the 16th minute when Jelena Vrcelj scored her second goal of the season on a header from an assist by Keri Zwikker.
Zwikker delivered a cross to Tamera Cormier, who punched the ball inside the net for her first goal of the season to give JU a 2-0 advantage before half.
In the second half, Bragg cut the deficit to a goal for the Bulldogs by scoring on a deflection on a pass from McKenna Stockhausen in the 64th minute.
The Bulldogs tied the match less than eight minutes later on a goal by Robyn Busha after a JU foul. It was Busha's second goal of the year.
Following the goal, the Dolphins had six shot attempts on goal but were unable to score before the end of regulation.
Bragg hit the golden goal less than seven minutes into overtime over an outstretched goalie Lorna Brownlie to seal the Dolphins' fate.
Brownlie (0-1-0) made three saves in her first start of the season, while Bulldogs keeper Veronica Lazar (1-3-1) made six stops in the win.
The Bulldogs return home on Wednesday, Sept. 17, to begin Big South Conference play against Presbyterian. The 4 p.m. game will video streamed on bigsouthsports.com
