Taylor Wohlwend Enjoys Great Summer Season in Hawaii

HONOLULU ? UNC Asheville sophomore pitcher Taylor Wohlwend enjoyed a great season for the Kauai Menehunes of the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League this summer. He made the All-Star team and helped Kauai capture the tournament championship.

Wohlwend finished the 2008 season with a 2-2 overall record and 1.67 ERA. He had 19 strikeouts in 27 innings of work. The California native was tied for second on the club in saves with five.

He pitched for the Makai Islanders in the HCBL All-Star game in July and pitched one scoreless inning, retiring all three hitters he faced.

On Tuesday, Kauai won the tournament title over the Oahu Paddlers, 11-2. He finished the game by pitching the final two innings. Wohlwend struck out four and allowed just one hit in those two innings.
