Alan DeRatt Wins Pro Debut for Casper

06.23.2008 | Baseball

ASHEVILLE, N.C.? Former UNC Asheville right handed pitcher Alan DeRatt was the winning pitcher in his first professional appearance in a 9-4 victory for the Casper Ghosts over the Idaho Falls Chukars on Saturday night.

DeRatt entered the game in relief in the fourth inning following Casper starter Dan Houston with the Ghosts leading 3-2. Houston did not pitch the required five innings for a starting pitcher to earn the win allowing DeRatt to become the pitcher of record.

DeRatt struck out the first professional hitter he faced, Antonio Jimenez, on way to throwing four shutout innings allowing just two hits. He struck out four Chukar hitters and did not walk a batter.

The Ghosts held a 7-2 lead in the eighth when DeRatt turned the game over Kyle Walker and Andres Marrero who pitched the eighth and ninth innings respectively.

Casper, a Rookie League affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, is 4-2 on the season. Asheville fans who wish to follow DeRatt can check the Casper web site at ghostsbaseball.com.
