DeRatt Pitching in Sioux Falls

DeRatt Still on Wallace Watch as Field Narrows to 64

06.02.2008 | Baseball

ASHEVILLE, N.C.-- As college baseball enters regional play with 64 teams, so does the Brooks Wallace National Player of the Year Wallace Watch. Sixty-four talented players now make up the Wallace Watch as they hope to take home National Player of the Year honors. The College Baseball Foundation is excited to showcase these players for the excellence they have shown on the baseball diamond in the 2008 season.

UNC Asheville senior right handed pitcher Alan DeRatt made the cut as the list was reduced from 100 to 64 over the Weekend. DeRatt finished the season seventh in the nation in ERA at 1.74. He went 8-2 in 14 starts. In the three of his four no decisions, he left the game with a lead. The fourth he pitched just one inning before rain suspended the game until the next day.

The Wallace Award is presented annually to the nation's top collegiate baseball player and will be nationally televised on Fox College Sports.

The 2008 award banquet will be held on Wednesday, July 2, at 7 p.m. in Lubbock, Texas. Information regarding the sale of individual tickets, as well as group and corporate tables, is available through the College Baseball Foundation website at www.collegebaseballfoundation.org.

The selection committee will narrow the Wallace Watch throughout the remainder of the post-season and the three Wallace Award finalists will be announced following NCAA Super Regional play. Along with their head coaches and parents, the finalists will be invited to Lubbock from July 2-4 to participate in the College Baseball Foundation's Past Meets Present celebration of college baseball. The 2008 College Baseball Hall of Fame Inductees will also be present for the three days of festivities.
