DeRatt Named Big South Pitcher of the Week

DeRatt Named to ABCA All-Atlantic Region Second Team

ASHEVILLE, N.C.? UNC Asheville senior Alan DeRatt was named to the American Baseball Coaches Association /Rawlings All-Atlantic Region Second Team on Monday.

 

The Atlantic Region was well represented at the national level, as 10 of its 13 First-Team All-Region players also were named to one of the three ABCA All-America teams, including five on the first team. The Atlantic Region consists of teams from the Atlantic Coast, Big South, Southern, MEAC, and Atlantic 10 conferences. 

 

DeRatt, a 17th round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies, joined three Coastal Carolina players as the Big South Conference placed four players on the All-Atlantic Region second team.

 

The Cary, N.C. native went 8-2 on the season with a 1.74 ERA and was named Big South Pitcher of the Year. He struck out 69 batters in 98 innings for the Bulldogs on the year and graduates as UNC Asheville's career leader in strikeouts and innings pitched.

 

DeRatt now a member of the Casper Ghosts, Colorado's rookie league team in Casper, Wyoming, will likely make his professional debut this week. The Ghosts opened their 2008 season with a 5-3 win over Idaho Falls on Monday.
