CHARLOTTE, N.C. ?Shoshana Fried was named as UNC Asheville Woman of the Year by the Big South Conference on Monday. She along with five other student-athletes from around the league was named as finalists for the Big South Conference Woman of the Year.
Allyson Fasnacht, a women's basketball player from Liberty, was named as the Big South Conference Woman of the Year.
Fried was a four-year letter-winner for the women's soccer team and helped the Bulldogs capture the 2006 Big South Women's Soccer Championship and NCAA Tournament berth. She was a starter on the 2004 and 2005 Big South regular-season champion Bulldogs and was named to the league's All-Tournament team as a sophomore.
The Chapel Hill native did an outstanding job in the classroom during her academic career. She graduated last May Cum laude with a Distinction in Economics.
Fried received the Keith and Kevin Davis Research Award for Economics and was a member of the Athletic Director's 3.0 Club and the Dean's List for eight semesters. She was a four-time Big South Presidential Honor Roll member and was a National Society of Collegiate Scholars member. Fried, who majored in economics and Spanish, was team captain and served as a teaching assistant for economics, in addition to volunteering as a peer mentor, Spanish tutor and ESL tutor, in addition to her involvement with the faculty-student research partnership and SAAC at UNC Asheville.
