ASHEVILLE, N.C.?UNC Asheville's Alan DeRatt continues to receive national recognition for his efforts this season. On Monday he was named as a Third-Team pitcher by PING Baseball.
DeRatt who was drafted by the Colorado Rockies in the 17th round of the Major League Draft went 8-2 on the season with a 1.74 ERA and was named Big South Pitcher of the Year. He joins Eric Beaulac (Le Moyne), Richard Bleier (Fla. Gulf Coast), Bryan Cryer (New Orleans), Shane Davis (Canisius), Johnny Dorn (Nebraska), Brad Holt (UNC Wilmington), Tyler Lyons (Oklahoma State), and Seth Maness (East Carolina) as third-team starting pitchers.
DeRatt, a native of Cary, N.C., was the only Big South pitcher on any of the three-teams. He joins three Coastal Carolina position players as the only four Big South Players to make any of the three teams. Big South Player of the Year Dock Doyle was a second-team selection. Big South Freshman of the Year Scott Woodard and 2007 Big South Player of the Year David Suppelt each earned third team honors.
