Women's Tennis Nips Western 4-3

CULLOWHEE, N.C.-- Four straight wins at numbers 3-6 gave the UNC Asheville women's tennis team a 4-3 victory over Western Carolina on Thursday afternoon.

The Bulldogs dropped the doubles point and the first two singles matches but Stephanie and Nicole Schon picked up wins at three and four and Tania Mateva and Whitney Abbott picked up wins at five and six to complete the comeback.

The match of the day was at number one singles where Western's Tessie Salame defeated Leslie Smith 6-3, 4-6, and 6-3. It was the only singles match that went three sets. Nicole Schon and Mateva also picked up a win at number three doubles.

Both teams will be back in action on Friday as they both face Mars Hill. The tri-match will be held at the UNC Asheville Tennis Center.
