ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville baseball team returns home this weekend to play a three-game series at McCormick Field against Marist College. The Bulldogs and Red Foxes will begin their three-game series Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. Saturday's game will start at 2 p.m. with Sunday's finale beginning at 1 p.m. Admission is $4 and UNC Asheville students get in free with their ID.

Asheville (6-9) is coming off a pair of one-run games this week on the road. The Bulldogs slipped past North Carolina A&T 6-5 on Tuesday afternoon before falling to Furman Wednesday night, 8-7.

“We just need to be a little more consistent each game,” stated UNC Asheville coach Willie Stewart. “We've got a lot of young guys who are still learning how to play but we're making progress.”

The Bulldogs will play a school-record 15 times at McCormick Field this year. This weekend's action is the first three games that Stewart's club will play at the Asheville Tourists minor league park.

“We're grateful to the city of Asheville and the Asheville Tourists for allowing us to play so many games at McCormick Field this year,” commented Stewart. “Playing at McCormick Field is great for our program.”

Marist is 1-5 on the young season but the Red Fox program has a history of success. Marist has won the Metro Athletic Atlantic Conference and advanced to the NCAA Tournament five times in the last 10 years.

The Bulldogs are scheduled to throw senior right-hander Alan DeRatt sometime this weekend. DeRatt is 3-0 on the season and has yet to give up a run. He pitched a complete game shutout against Wright State last Saturday, 2-0. DeRatt has gone 23 innings this season without a run scored, either earned or unearned.
