CHARLOTTE, N.C.?The baseball season may only be three weeks old but UNC Asheville's Alan DeRatt has won two Big South New Balance Pitcher of the Week honors after earning the nod from the conference office today after shutting out Wright State on Saturday. Coastal Carolina junior catcher Dock Doyles has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week.

DeRatt continued his early season mastery on the mound as he blanked Wright State, 2-0 on Saturday in recording his first complete game shutout since the opening game of the 2006 Big South Baseball Tournament.  He went the full nine innings, allowing six hits, walking one and fanning eight batters.  The Raiders hit .200 (6-for-30) against him.  DeRatt is 3-0 this season and has not allowed a run in 23.0 innings, and opponents are batting just .114 against him with eight total hits.

Doyle batted .500 (8-16) in four wins last week for Coastal, scoring three runs, belting three home runs and driving in 10 on the week.  He was 5-9 with six RBI in the two games against Ball State.  Doyle was 3-4 with a double and a home run in the 6-1 win March 8, and then went 2-5 with a double, home run and four RBI in the 10-8 win.  His two-run double in the eighth inning brought in the game-winning runs.  Doyle also slugged 1.188 on the week, had a .550 on-base percentage and threw out 2-of-3 runners trying to steal.

Asheville returns to the diamond on Tuesday, March 11, when it travels to North Carolina A&T for a 3 p.m. game. The Bulldogs continue to mid-week play on Wednesday in a 6 p.m. game at Furman.
