CHARLOTTE, N.C.--  High Point senior Chris Norwood has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Baseball Player of the Week, while UNC Asheville senior Alan DeRatt  has been named New Balance Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 22-24, it was announced today by the League office.

DeRatt (1-0) picked up the win for Asheville (2-1) on opening day by throwing seven no-hit innings against future Big South member Presbyterian.  He walked four and struck out six to earn the first victory of the season. DeRatt is the first Bulldog hurler to throw seven no-hit innings since Jason Walker threw the school's only no-hitter in a seven inning game against Liberty in 2000.

Norwood batted .455 (5-11) with a double, home run and six runs batted in to help High Point post a 2-1 series win over Penn State.  He tallied hits in all three games, including multiple hits in both of HPU's victories.  He went 2-3 with a homer and 3 RBI in the Panthers'14-1 win.  Norwood led the way in the series clincher Sunday, going 2-3 with 3 RBI, including driving in the final two runs in the decisive 8th inning.  He also was 3-3 on stolen base attempts, had a sacrifice fly, slugged .818 and posted a .533 on-base percentage.

UNC Asheville travels to Gardner-Webb on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and South Carolina on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
