ASHEVILLE, N.C.?UNC Asheville women's basketball team, coming off a 79-63 road victory at High Point, returns to the Justice Center to face Charleston Southern on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The game can be heard live on ESPN Radio 970/1310 WISE in the Asheville area and can be seen on uncabulldogs.com for a small fee.
Both teams enter the game with two conference victories and the winner can move into a tie for fifth place as teams jockey for seeding in the upcoming Advance Auto Parts Big South Tournament.
Asheville (11-14) is coming off its first conference road win of the season. The Dogs shot a season-high 49 percent from the floor against High Point. Jessica Monroe had 23 points leading four Bulldogs in double-figures. Stacy Shepard recorded her second straight double-double as she continues to lead the Big South in rebounding at 10.3 rebounds per game.
Charleston Southern (7-19) is playing its final regular season road game. The Lady Bucs have not won a game outside of Charleston this season. Pam Tolbert is second in the Big South in scoring at 16.5 points per game. She is the only Lady Buc averaging in double figures for the year. Crystal Robinson is averaging 11.4 points and 5.3 rebounds in Big South games. CSU has dropped five straight games since a 74-61 victory over Asheville on Jan. 29, in Charleston.
Asheville leads the all-time series 26-21 after CSU took the first meeting of the season. The Bulldogs have more wins over the Lady Bucs than any other opponent. The two teams have split the season series each of the last three seasons. The last time CSU swept the season series was during the 2002-03 season.
Saturday's game is the first game of a Homecoming double header with the two men's teams playing afterwards at 4:30 p.m. Both games will be broadcast tape-delayed on Saturday night on Asheville Educational Television, Charter TV-16, and beginning at 8 p.m.
