Women?s Basketball Falls to 16th Ranked Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md.?Kendall Shepard and Lindsey Thompson each scored 12 points and Linda Aughburns added 11 points as UNC Asheville fell 90-57 to 16th ranked Maryland in the first game of the Terrapin Classic Monday afternoon.
Aughburns and Thompson, both freshman, recorded season highs in points. All 12 of Thompson's point came from three-point range as she went 4-for-6 from beyond the arc. Shepard, a Maryland native, played 31 minutes and had four assists in addition to her 12 points.
Asheville dropped to 3-8 on the season and is 0-4 in road games. The Bulldogs will face Marshall on Tuesday at Noon in the consolation game.
Maryland (10-2) was led by Marah Strickland who had 20 points and 10 rebounds while Lynetta Kizer chipped in 18 points.
Asheville held a 21-20 lead with 6:33 left in the first half has Thompson connected on her third consecutive three-pointer. The Terps then used a 13-0 run over the next four minutes to lead 33-21 with 2:37 left in the half. The Dogs finished the half on a 7-6 run and trailed 39-28 at halftime.
“I was pleased with the way we played against a very good Maryland team,” said Asheville head coach Betsy Blose. “We played very hard in the first half and were in the game at halftime. Maybe we should have done some things differently in the second half, but I think we got better today.”
