CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- UNC Asheville's Jessica Monroe has been named the Big South Conference Women's Basketball Choice Hotels Player of the Week, while Ali Schwagmeyer from Charleston Southern was tabbed New Balance Freshman of the Week, the League announced today.

Monroe, a senior from Youngsville, N.C., averaged 16 points and 10 rebounds to lead her Bulldogs to a 1-1 record on the week.  She got her week started with 14 points on 5-of-9 from the floor and 4-of-7 from the charity stripe to go along with 12 rebounds as UNC Asheville downed Montreat on Nov. 24.  On Nov. 29, against South Carolina State, Monroe put in 18 points on 53 percent from the floor and 2-of-3 from the line.  She also corralled eight boards in the game.  For the week, the forward hit 13-of-24 from the floor to finish with a 54 percent clip.  The honor marks her first Player of the Week nod this season and the second of her career.

Monroe and the Bulldogs will return to the court on Tuesday as they face Mountain Rival Western Carolina in a 7 p.m. game. The game will be broadcast on ESPN Radio AM-1310 WISE and can be seen on the Big South Edge for a small fee.

Schwagmeyer, a forward from Camp Point, Ill., averaged 9.3 points per game and shot 44 percent from the floor in three games for the Lady Bucs last week.  She posted two games with double-digits in scoring, including 11 points in Charleston Southern's win over North Texas on Nov. 29.  In the three-game span, Schwameyer connected on 11-of-25 from the floor and knocked down 3-of-7 from downtown.  She also finished the week with 15 rebounds.  The honor marks her second-straight Freshman of the Week accolade this season.
