ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville women's soccer team will be seeded seventh in the 2008 Big South Conference Tournament that begins Thursday at High Point University. The Bulldogs take on second-seeded Radford at
The teams just played on Saturday at Greenwood Field with Radford recording a 3-2 victory. The Highlanders jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the second
“We've been in most of our matches this year and been in all of our league games,” stated UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. “Lately, we've been right but haven't been able to get that big goal when we needed to get one.
“The great thing about the Big South Conference Tournament is your season starts over,” explained Cornish. “We just need to put three games together, and we can win the tournament.”
This will be the fourth time the Bulldogs and Highlanders have squared off in the Big South Tournament. Radford hold a 3-0 advantage and two of those victories have occurred in the Big South title game in 1998 and 2002.
“We'll have a tough match with Radford,” declared Cornish. “They have a lot of speed and very good at going forward. We're going to need to play well to have a chance to win.”
The Bulldogs are led in scoring by senior Robyn Busha who has seven goals on the season. McKenna Stockhausen has four goals and five assists for 13 points.
