Women's Basketball Hosts Montreat on Monday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville women's basketball team will try to win its first game of the season on Monday when the Bulldogs play host to area foe Montreat at Justice Center starting at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast by WISE (1310-AM) and video-streamed for a small fee at www.uncabulldogs.com.

UNC Asheville is 0-4 on the young season and has been plagued by some early-season injuries. The Bulldogs played with just eight players on Saturday in a 52-39 loss at Georgia Southern on Saturday afternoon.

The effort was good on Saturday against the Eagles as Asheville out-rebounded the home team, 45-22 and had 20 offensive rebounds to just eight for GSU. But the Bulldogs struggled on offense as they shot just 31 percent (15-of-49) from the field and made 35 turnovers.

Chiomi Okoli scored 12 points for the Bulldogs. Lindsey Montgomery pulled down nine rebounds. Freshman Linda Aughburns scored eight points for Asheville.

Okoli leads the Bulldogs in scoring after four games with an 11.6 average.

Montreat enters Monday's game with a 2-3 record. The Cavaliers dropped a close 73-69 decision at Bluefield Saturday night. Senior guar Chazaree Wright had a great game at Bluefield with 21 points and 16 rebounds.

The teams played last year with UNC Asheville earning a 75-48 win.
