Women's Basketball Falls to Fairfield 69-49; Play William & Mary at Noon on Saturday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? Shireyll Moore scored 20 points to lead Fairfield to a 69-49 victory over UNC Asheville in the first round of the UNC Asheville Women's Basketball Tournament at Justice Center Friday night.
The Bulldogs (0-1) were led by Chioma Okoli with 13 points, while Ana Baker added 11 points.
The Stags had Baendu Lowenthal contribute 16 points, while Desiree Pina tallied 12 points. The visitors shot 51 percent (28-of-55) from the field and 54 percent (6-of-11) from the three-point line.
The Stags went on a 12-4 run as they got two treys from Pina to race to a 36-26 lead. However, Baker knocked down a half-court shot as the first half ended to cut the lead to 36-29 at halftime.

The visitors continued to build on the lead as they won 69-49. The Stags outscored UNC Asheville 33-20 in the second half. The Bulldogs struggled with their shooting on the day as they shot just 33 percent (20-of-60) from the field.
In the first game,
Erin Hawkins chipped in 16 points for the Bears. The Tribe (0-1) was led by Tiffany Benson who had a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds.
