Women's Soccer Rolls Past Gardner-Webb 3-0

10.04.2008 | Women's Soccer

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. ? UNC Asheville scored three goals in the second half to down Gardner-Webb 3-0 in Big South Conference women's soccer action Saturday afternoon.

The Bulldogs (5-7-1, 3-1-0) won for the fourth time in the last six games. Asheville picked up goals from Megan Bradham, Bethany Teague and Lauren Turburke to record its fourth consecutive road victory.

Junior goalkeeper Veronica Lazar earned the shutout for Asheville with four saves. It was her third shutout of the season.

“It's always nice to win on the road and I was pleased to get a result after not playing very well on Tuesday (a 1-0 home loss to High Point), said UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. “This was a nice team effort both on offense and defense.”

The game was scoreless until midway through the second half. Megan Bradham scored her first goal of the season off a feed from freshman Bethany Teague for a 1-0 Asheville lead. Bradham hit a shot from 18 yards for the goal at the 59:18 mark.

Asheville made it 2-0 five minutes later when senior Juliana Duncan sent a pass to McKenna Stockhausen. The junior midfielder struck from 10 yards out for a 2-0 Bulldog advantage at the 64:56 mark.

Lauren Turnburke scored her first goal of the year to seal the win for Asheville. She scored an unassisted goal when she struck a shot from 25 yards for a 3-0 Bulldog lead at 77:28.

The Bulldogs play next at Coastal Carolina Tuesday night starting at 7 p.m.
