ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? After a 10-day layoff, the UNC Asheville women's soccer team is back in action on Tuesday when the Bulldogs host a surprising VMI squad in a key Big South Conference match at Greenwood Field starting at 4 p.m. Admission is free. The match will be video-streamed for a small fee on the Big South's EDGE. You can watch the match by going to www.bigsouthsports.com.
UNC Asheville (5-9-1, 3-3-0) has not played since a disappointing 3-1 loss at Liberty on Oct. 11. The Bulldogs hope to move up in the league standings with a win on Tuesday but it won't be easy against a VMI team that is 3-1-1 in league play. The Keydets are 6-7-1 overall and may be the most improved team in the nation. VMI comes into Tuesday's match after an impressive 3-1 victory at High Point Saturday night.
“VMI has played very well this year and has been quite consistent,” stated UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. “We're going to have to play very well to have a chance at a result. Hopefully, these 10 days off have allowed us to heal and get better.”
The Bulldogs are being led in scoring by junior midfielder McKenna Stockhausen with four goals and five assists for 13 points. Robyn Busha leads Asheville in goals scored with five. Junior goalkeeper Veronica Lazar has been ranked nationally this year in saves.
