ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? Miguel Pinzon scored early in the second half as Gardner-Webb edged UNC Asheville, 2-1 in Big South Conference men's soccer action at Greenwood Field Wednesday afternoon.

The home team got a goal from freshman Bryan George in the 12th minute to take a 1-0 but the Runnin' Bulldogs rallied with a goal in each half to pick up the victory.

The win was GWU's (5-7-0, 4-1-0 BSC) fifth in its last seven matches. The Bulldogs lost their second straight 2-1 decision to fall to 4-6-2 on the year and 2-2-0 in league play.

Asheville got on the board quickly after the visitors had controlled play for the first 10 minutes of the match. The Bulldogs countered and got on the board when Branden Lassen sent a pass to George who scored from the left side of the box for a quick 1-0 Asheville lead at 12:19.

The lead didn't last long as GWU tied the match 10 minutes later. Jarrett Jackson sent a pass to Gerald Hefferon. Hefferon headed the ball into the back of the net to knot the match at 1-1 at the 22:05 mark.

Asheville created some chances late in the first half as senior Scott Szymanski just missed scoring in the 40th minute as hit shot hit the side of the net.

After halftime, Gardner-Webb dominated and got the game-winner. Adam Augruso sent a pass to Pinzon. Pinzon then hit a rocket from 20 yards out that found the upper left-hand part of the net for 2-1 visitors' lead at 58:00.

The Runnin' Bulldogs had some opportunities to wide the lead but Asheville goalkeeper Lassi Hurskainen made three saves.

The home team made a great charge in the final 10 minutes and just missed tying it up off the foot of freshman Bryan Bartels. Bartels was five yards in front of the goal and was able to get two shots. One shot was blocked and the second was stopped by GWU goalkeeper Dane Geraci with eight minutes remaining.

UNC Asheville plays next at Coastal Carolina next Wednesday afternoon at 4 p.m. Gardner-Webb plays at Georgia Southern Friday afternoon at 1 p.m.
