Volleyball Falls at Liberty

LYNCHBURG, Va.?Kelsey Benorden led UNC Asheville with 12 kills but Liberty handed the Bulldogs their fifth-straight defeat 25-9, 25-17, 25-20 on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulldogs (8-10, 0-5 Big South)hit just .055 in the match while Liberty (15-5, 6-0 Big South) hit .252. Jessica Nelson had 11 kills to lead the Flames. Liberty out-blocked the Dogs 9.5 to 3.
Raquel Miotto led all players with 14 digs. Liberty's Karyl Bacon had 11 digs.
Liberty jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the opening set with the help of a 10-0 run and never looked back to win 25-9.
The second set was tied 10-10 before Liberty scored four straight points. Asheville scored three of the next four points to pull to 15-12 but the Flames went on a 5-0 run to lead 20-12 and go on to win 20-17.
Liberty led 6-5 in the third set before another 5-0 run by the Flames made the score 11-5. The two teams played evenly the rest of the set as Liberty won 25-20.
The Bulldogs will try to snap their losing streak at Gardner-Webb on Tuesday, Oct. 14. The match begins at 7 p.m.
