ASHEVILLE, N.C.? Ashton Barton scored 19 points and Kendall Shepard added a career-high 15 points as UNC Asheville defeated Coastal Carolina 63-54 in front of a regional television audience helping Asheville head coach Betsy Blose earn her 200th career coaching victory.

Barton went 5-for-11 from the floor and 6-for-9 from the foul line to move into 12th place on Asheville's all-time scoring list passing Darlene Hewitt (1987-92). She now has 992 career points. Stacy Shepard posted her 10th career double-double with 11 points and a team-high 14 rebounds.

"This was a great win for us," said Blose. "Our player are a lot more resilient than I am. I was worried all week about who was going to play but they came out and played good team basketball. Kendall really answered the challenge today and our seniors played very well."

Coastal (11-6, 0-3 Big South) clapped down the defense through the middle of the half holding the Dogs to just 4-for-20 shooting at 12 points the rest of the half.
