Indoor Track Teams Head to Niswonger Invitational This Weekend

JOHNSON CITY, TENN. ? The UNC Asheville men's and women's Indoor Track and Field squads will compete in the Niswonger Invitational at the Memorial Center on the campus of East Tennessee State Friday and Saturday.

The Niswonger Invitational is one of the most prestigious indoor meets in the country. This is the 30th year for the meet and will showcase some of the world's top collegiate, post-collegiate and professional athletes. More than 1,100 athletes from 85 teams plan to compete in the two-day event.

This weekend's meet is the third of the season for the Bulldogs. However, first-year coach Jesse Norman didn't take a full team to the first two meets. Everyone will be going to Johnson City this weekend.

“We're really looking forward to this weekend and the competition,” commented Norman. “It should be a great meet for us to compete in and see where we stand. There will be some great competition in all events.”

Each team has had some great moments in the early part of the year. Sophomore sprinter Natalie Pearson won the 55-meters and took second at the Appalachian State Invitational back on Dec. 2. Last week in Chapel Hill, Emily Mase won the mile.

Back at Appalachian State last month, senior Jon Harmon finished second in the mile against a tough field. Matt Holman has been solid for the Bulldogs in the mile in both races this year.
