Jessica Monroe Earns Big South Player of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. ? UNC Asheville's Jessica Monroe has been named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Basketball Player of the Week, while Amy Dodd of High Point was tabbed New Balance Freshman of the Week, the League announced today.

Monroe, a forward from Youngsville, N.C., posted a career-high 23 points and came away with eight rebounds to lead her team to a 62-52 win over USC Upstate on Jan. 8. She connected on 82 percent from the field on 9-of-11 shooting and added five from the charity stripe. She also dished out two assists and recorded two steals and one block in the win for the Bulldogs.

Dodd, a forward from Apex, N.C., posted a team-high 17 points to lead the Panthers to a 76-58 win over future Big South foe Presbyterian on Jan. 12. She was 6-of-14 from the floor, 2-of-3 from three-point land and 75 percent from the line for the Panthers. She also corralled six boards, dished out four assists and came away with four steals in the win over the Blue Hose.

You can see both players in action this week as High Point travels to Asheville on Saturday, Jan. 16, for a 2 p.m. game. The game will be video streamed live on www.bigsouthsports.com and can be seen on tape delay at 9 p.m. on Asheville Educational Television-16.
