09.07.2007 | Women's Basketball
ASHEVILLE, N.C.? UNC Asheville's women's basketball team welcomed back its graduated seniors and handed out its Big South Championship Rings in a special ceremony at Laurel Forum Friday night.
Head Coach Betsy Blose remembered where she stood when she was hired five years ago and what she was thinking as the Bulldogs capped off their championship season with a victory over Radford on March 10.
"I had a feeling of calmness come over me," said Blose. "I knew this was a special team and with about 30 second left all I could think about was how hard this team worked and what a special group of young ladies this was."
The ceremony included a list of accomplishments and a video highlighting the Bulldogs first ever Big South Championship in women's basketball and their NCAA Tournament game against LSU.
Graduates Amanda Elder, Katie Baldwin, and Brittney Hendley spoke and the it was onto the reason for the gathering. The rings.
Each player was on hand along with Kristal Hood who was also given a ring. Hood was the lone senior on the 2005-06 team and was the first player recruited by Blose to come to Asheville.
The ring is a silver band. The words BIG SOUTH CHAMPS surround a small blue stone on the front. On the right side is the UNC Asheville "A" and on the left, the words NCAA 2007.
