Women's Soccer Opens Season at Home Against Tennessee Tech on Sunday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's soccer team opens the 2007 season Sunday afternoon at Greenwood Field when the Bulldogs host Tennessee Tech starting at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
The defending Big South Conference champions open up defense of their crown with the first of nine home matches against the Golden Eagles. UNC Asheville fell at Tennessee Tech last year, 2-0. The Golden Eagles opened the season with a 2-0 loss at Appalachian State Friday night.
The Bulldogs played one exhibition match on Aug. 18 and defeated Mars Hill, 3-1. Head Coach Michele Cornish is looking for to the season-opener on Sunday.
"We've practiced hard over the past two weeks to improve but now we're ready to play a match," stated UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. "We're excited about what we have a chance to accomplish this year."
Cornish expects a tough match from Tennessee Tech on Sunday.
"Tennessee Tech is a quick team and does a good job going forward," explained Cornish. "They have always played us tough, and we're going to have to be at our best on Sunday."
UNC Asheville returns eight starters from last year's title-winning team. Topping the returnees is junior forward Robyn Busha who enters Sunday's match with 20 career goals. Senior forward Joy Haynes of Asheville will be a key player for the Bulldogs this season. Haynes has scored 11 career goals and five of them have been game-winners.
