Women's Soccer Set to Host Furman on Thursday at Greenwood Field

ASHEVILLE, N.C. ? The UNC Asheville women's soccer team will attempt to snap a five-game losing streak Thursday afternoon when they take on a very good Furman squad at Greenwood Field starting at 4 p.m. Admission is free.

The match with the Paladins will be video-streamed by the UNC Asheville Athletics Communications Office. Viewers can go to www.bigsouthsports.com and for a small fee can watch the match.

The Bulldogs are 1-5-0 on the season but have been on the road for much of the season. Asheville has played just one home game this year and that was a 1-0 overtime win over Tennessee Tech on Sept. 2. The Bulldogs fell at Austin Peay on Sunday, 2-0.

“We had 11 shots in the Austin Peay match and should have scored a few times,” commented Asheville head coach Michele Cornish. “We're not playing badly and have run into some tough luck. We're very glad to be back at home and play some matches at Greenwood Field.”

The Bulldogs are playing an excellent Furman squad on Thursday. The Lady Paladins are 4-3-0 on the season but have lost close matches to Clemson and South Carolina.

“Furman is traditionally one of the top teams in the Southern Conference and they'll be one of the top teams again this year,” commented Cornish. “They are very good and are solid at putting the ball into the back of the net. We need to be at the top of our game to play against Furman.”

UNC Asheville is being led in scoring by Robyn Busha and Joy Haynes as both forwards have scored twice on the year.

The Bulldogs next home match is on Sunday when they'll host Chattanooga for the first time ever at 2 p.m.
