ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Former women's soccer player Lauren Wingo has been named as the recipient of the 2007-2008 CSAC Scholarship Award. This award is granted to students through a competitive process and selection is determined by scholarship, service to the university and community, and financial need.

Wingo was a four-year letterwinner for the Bulldogs from 2003-06. She was a starter at midfield for three years and helped Asheville win the 2004 and 2005 Big South Conference regular-season titles and 2006 Big South Tournament championship. She is a senior this year majoring in health care management and plans to attend medical school. She holds a 3.88 GPA.

The Columbia, S.C. native has done a great deal of community service. It includes serving as a Meals-on-Wheels driver, I Have a Dream Foundation mentor, and Habitat for Humanity builder including travel to New Orleans. This summer she traveled to Malawi, Africa for two months with World Camp for Kids to teach school children HIV/Aids prevention, nutrition, environmental care and gender equality as well as conducting undergraduate research on health care in that country. On campus, Lauren was the university's chapter president for Habitat for Humanity. She served on the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) in several capacities, including president.

Lauren made the Big South Presidential Honor Roll four times and was member of the Big South All-Academic team for women's soccer twice.
