ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's soccer team will play an exhibition game Saturday afternoon against Mars Hill at Greenwood Field starting at 2 p.m. Admission is free.
The defending Big South Conference champions have been practicing for the past week as they look to have another championship season. The Bulldogs won the 2004 and 2005 Big South Conference regular-season championships before winning the tournament and advancing to the NCAA College Cup last year.
UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish is looking forward to seeing her team play in a match-type situation.
"We've worked hard early but it'll fun to play a game," said Cornish. "Mars Hill is a well-coached team that will give us a good early test."
The Bulldogs finished with a 10-7-3 overall record last season, while Mars Hill went 12-8-1 and advanced to the semifinals of their conference tournament.
UNC Asheville opens the 2007 season at home on Sunday, Sept. 2 when the Bulldogs hosts Tennessee Tech at Greenwood Field starting at 2 p.m.
