Women's Soccer to Play Charleston Southern in Big South Tourney on Thursday

11.05.2007 | Women's Soccer

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The UNC Asheville women's soccer team will be the seventh seed for the Big South Conference Tournament to be held at Blackbaud Stadium in Charleston, S.C.

The Bulldogs (3-13, 1-6-0 BSC) take on second-seeded Charleston Southern this Thursday night at 7 p.m. Asheville lost to the Buccaneers, 1-0 back on Oct. 20 at Greenwood Field. It was a match that the Bulldogs seemed to control for most of the way as they out-shot CSU, 13-8. However, Emma Matson scored in the 85th minute to give the Bucs their second straight win at Greenwood Field.

UNC Asheville is the defending Big South Conference champions as the Bulldogs won last year's title as the fifth seed.

“As we know anything can happen in the tournament,” commented UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. “We've been in most of our matches this year but simply haven't got the job done and won matches. We're capable of winning three matches this weekend and going back to the NCAA Tournament. However, we've got to score goals when we have the opportunities.”

Junior forward Robyn Busha leads Asheville in scoring with eight goals and 19 points. Senior forward Joy Haynes is next with four goals and 10 points.

The Big South's Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.  All games will have real-time in-game statistics available on www.BigSouthSports.com and http://csusports.athleticsite.com.  The Conference Championship schedule is as follows:
