ASHEVILLE, N.C.?The UNC Asheville women's team will travel to Western Carolina on Wednesday night for a 7 p.m. game. The game can be heard in the Asheville area on AM-1310 WISE and around the world on uncabulldogs.com.
The Bulldogs are 4-2 on the season and are coming off their second straight in season tournament. Asheville won the consolation game of the UNCG Thanksgiving Tournament 77-70 over the host Spartans. Ashton Barton had a season-high 23 points on 5-for-8 shooting from three-point range. She leads the Big South in made three-pointers per game. Barton leads the Dogs in scoring at 15.7 points per game and already has three 20 plus point games this season.
Lindsey Montgomery is this week's Big South Freshman of the week as she averaged 11 points per game last week. For the season, she is scoring 9.2 points and pulling down seven rebounds per game. Jessica Monroe, Chioma Okoli, and Ana Baker are all averaging right around 10 points per game for the Dogs who lead the Big South in scoring at 70.8 points per game.
The Catamounts are 3-1 on the season with wins over Detroit, Clemson, and Louisville. The only defeat came at the hands of Minnesota. Brooke Johnson leads the Cats averaging 12.8 points while Ashley Pellom is scoring 12.5 points per game. Chevon Keith is pulling down 10.3 rebounds per game while averaging 9.8 points.
Western holds a 23-13 all-time mark against Asheville. The Cats won last season's meeting in Asheville 81-78 snapping a three year losing streak to the Dogs. Asheville won the last meeting in Cullowhee 77-66 in 2005.
