Volleyball Upsets High Point in Five Games; Benorden Sets School Record with 34 Kills

LYNCHBURG, - Kelsey Benorden had a school-record 34 kills as sixth-seeded UNC Asheville downed third-seeded High Point in five games in the quarterfinals of the Big South Conference Volleyball Tournament Thursday afternoon at the Vines Center. The Bulldogs won the match, 25-30, 31-29, 30-27, 23-30, 15-10.

The Panthers (24-9) controlled the offense early and held off a couple late UNC Asheville runs to pick off the 30-25 win in game one. Game two was back and forth with both teams battling hard. “Kelsey was just phenomenal,” stated Torbett. “Our team did a great job rallying around her and getting her the ball. She had a sensational match and that's the best I've ever seen her play.”
Torbett pointed to the Bulldogs winning the second game 31-29 as the key game.
“If we don't win game two then we're packing right now and going home,” admitted Torbett. “It was tied 29-29 and we were able to get the points to get some momentum in the match.”
Ashley Wrightenberry had six block assists and is now the school's all-time leader in that category with 345.
