LEXINGTON, VA. ? VMI scored two goals in the final five minutes to knock off UNC Asheville, 2-0 in men's college soccer action Saturday afternoon at Patchin Field.

The Bulldogs (1-7-1, 0-3-0) totally dominated the match as they out-shot the Keydets, 20-9. Asheville had 10 corner kicks to two for VMI. However, Asheville simply could not put the ball into the back of the net.

“This is simply one of the most frustrating losses I've ever had,” commented UNC Asheville coach Steve Cornish. “We played some beautiful soccer but someone has to step up and make a play. We did not do that, despite numerous chances to score. Our lads have got to find a way to make plays.”

Asheville controlled the match from start to finish but Keydet goalkeeper Brian Sowell made nine saves to keep the Bulldogs off the scoreboard.

The Keydets would get the winning goal at 84:39 when Chris Curtis tucked in a rebound for his first goal of the season.

With UNC Asheville pressing for the equalizer, VMI added another goal with 32 seconds left as Jose Anduzea scored his first goal of the year on another rebound.

“We just need to put this match behind us and get ready for Clemson on Tuesday,” added Cornish, “We played hard and good soccer today but we must find a way to win and to score goals.”

The Bulldogs host ACC power Clemson Tuesday afternoon at Greenwood Field starting at 4 p.m.
