Women's Soccer Crushes VMI, 5-0

LEXINGTON, VA. ? Robyn Busha scored three times as UNC Asheville picked up its first Big South Conference win of the year with a 5-0 rout of homestanding VMI Sunday afternoon.

Busha scored Asheville's first three goals, followed by a goal from Kate Barrow and Katy Beeler to help the Bulldogs break a frustrating six-game losing streak. UNC Asheville is now 3-11 overall and 1-5 in the BSC.

The Bulldogs were ready from the start in this one as Busha scored the second fastest goal in UNC Asheville history when she scored unassisted at the 34-second mark.

The junior forward tallied again at the 39:14 mark when she headed in a shot off a pass from McKenna Stockhausen to pad the lead to 2-0.

In the second half, Busha scored at the 72:11 mark to give the Bulldogs a 3-0 advantage.

Barrow tallied her first goal of the year off a corner kick. Juliana Duncan was credited with an assist on the play at the 74:54 mark.

The Bulldogs completed the scoring in the 89^th minute when freshman Katy Beeler scored her second goal of the season.

Asheville out-shot VMI, 24-7. The shutout was shared by Veronica Lazar and Shanna Brown. Lazar made four saves in the first half.

UNC Asheville plays its final home game this Wednesday afternoon when the Bulldogs host Liberty University at Greenwood Field starting at 4 p.m. Prior to the match, the school will honor its four seniors who have done so much for the UNC Asheville program. They are forward Joy Haynes, defender Kate Barrow, defender Mary Ashley McCullough and midfielder Shoshana Fried.
