UNC Asheville (2-10-0, 0-3-0) is looking for its first Big South Conference win of the season after losing a tough 1-0 decision to league-leading Winthrop Wednesday afternoon at Greenwood Field. Charleston Southern has an 8-4-0 overall record and is 1-1 in the conference. The Buccaneers enter Saturday's match with a four-game winning streak and victories in seven of their last eight games.
Asheville is trying to break a four-game losing streak on Saturday. The past two losses have been one-goal affairs with the opponent breaking a halftime tie with a goal to pick up the win.
“We've played better the past two matches, and our effort against Winthrop on Wednesday was excellent,” commented UNC Asheville coach Michele Cornish. “We just need to play 90 minutes of consistent soccer and when we have chances to score we need to put the ball into the back of the net.”
The Bulldogs continue to be led in scoring by junior forward Robyn Busha with four goals and 11 points. Senior forward Joy Haynes is right behind her with four goals and 10 points.
Cornish is impressed with Charleston Southern's recent play.
“Charleston Southern is playing very well right now and has posted some impressive results,” stated Cornish. “We're certainly going to have to play at a high level to have a chance at winning on Saturday.”
