ASHEVILLE, N.C. - Amanda Elder scored 23 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as UNC Asheville rallied past Coastal Carolina, 65-51 in the quarterfinals of the 2007 Advance Auto Parts Big South Conference Tournament at Justice Center.

The Bulldogs (19-11) advance to the semifinals for the second time in three years. Asheville takes on eighth-seeded Winthrop Friday evening at 6 p.m. The Eagles shocked top-seeded High Point earlier in the day, 57-50.

Coastal Carolina (18-11) was led by Big South Player of the Year Alisha Dill with 21 points. Victoria Blached led the Chanticleers with 14 rebounds.

Asheville got a great game from senior guard Brittany Hendley with 17 points and eight rebounds. Stacy Shepard finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds.

"I'm really proud of our team for finding a way to win this game against a very good Coastal Carolina team," commented UNC Asheville coach Betsy Blose. "I thought we were a little tight for much of the game but our defense and rebounding in the last 10 minutes of the game really sparked us. We also finally hit some big shots when we just had to have them."

The Chanticleers went on an 8-0 run early in the second half to race to a 40-33 lead as Dill hit two free throws at the 16:04 mark.

But Asheville started to rally and went on a 10-2 run to regain the lead at 43-42 on two free throws from Shepard.

The teams traded the lead as CCU went up 47-46 on a Dill lay-up at the 7:39 mark. The Bulldogs then rallied back and took the lead for good an 11-1 run to push the Asheville lead at 58-48. Hendley led the run with two free throws and a lay-up to put the Bulldogs up 50-47. A lay-up from Elder and a crucial trey from senior Katie Baldwin put the Bulldogs in front, 55-47.

Coastal Carolina could get no closer than eight the rest of the game. Asheville finished the game on a 19-4 run.

The Bulldogs limited the Chanticleers to just 27 percent (18-of-67) shooting from the field and out-rebounded the visitors, 56-31.

Elder went 8-of-10 from the field and 7-of-10 from the free throw line. She had four assists, two blocked shots and two steals.
