ASHEVILLE, N.C. - The High Point tennis teams defeated UNC Asheville in the Big South Opener for both schools on Friday at the UNCA Tennis Center.
The Panthers won the men's competition 6-1 paced by a pair of three set victories at numbers one and two singles. Mike Tolman defeated Loic Hereson 3-6, 7-5, 6-4 at number one and Chris Archer defeated Vadim Ivanov 6-7, 6-4, 6-4 at number two.
Asheville's lone victory cam at number three singles where Rob Nunnery defeated Jack Notton 6-1, 6-1.
On the women's side, UNC Asheville only had three women compete forfeiting the doubles point and four through six in singles. Asheville's Rachel Rhoney defeated A.C. Talus 6-4, 6-2 at number two singles. High Point got a 6-4, 6-1 victory at number one with Suzanne Celensu defeating Mary Katherine Fitzgerald.
The Asheville men will return to action on Saturday as they travel to UNC Greensboro for a 2 p.m. match.
