CLEMSON, S.C. - Mark Buchholz scored two goals and Dane Richards had one goal and two assists in leading Clemson to a 5-0 win over UNC Asheville in men's soccer action Tuesday night.
Clemson improves to 7-4-3 overall this season, while Asheville falls to 2-11-1 this season.
Randy Albright opened the scoring at the 27:26 mark with an assist by Richards. Buchholz scored in the 35th minute with an assist by Richards. Buchholz scored again less than a minute later for his third goal of the year.
Richards scored his fifth goal of the year with an assist by Micah Usry at the 42:24, giving the Tigers' a 4-0 lead at the half.
The Tigers Ryan Roushandel scored his first goal of the season at the 62:32 mark giving Clemson the 5-0 advantage.
Asheville's best chance to score came in the 15th minute of play as Daniel Bandoly played a ball to Scott Szymanski at the top of the 18-yard box but Tiger goalkeeper Phil Marfuggi came up big on the save. Minutes later, Ryan Haupt had a shot from 15 yards that was saved by Marfuggi.
Clemson out-shot Asheville 21-4 on the match. All four of the Bulldogs shots were on goal. Two were by Haupt, one by Szymanski, and one by Andrew Klerekoper.
Asheville returns home to Greenwood Field on Saturday to face Big South rival Liberty at 3 p.m.
