ASHEVILLE, N.C.--The UNC Asheville baseball team will look to make it two-straight against Tennessee when the two teams meet at McCormick Field on Wednesday evening. The Bulldogs defeated the Vols 13-10 in Knoxville on March 30.
The game is the second game of an Asheville baseball double header. The Tourists play the Hickory Crawdads at 4 p.m. and the Bulldogs and Vols will get started around 7 p.m.
The Bulldogs (9-23) are trying to end a season-long seven game losing streak but have had success this season playing against teams from the SEC. Asheville has defeated both Florida and Tennessee this season. The `Dogs will send senior right-hander Eric Brotzman to the mound. He is 2-3 with a 6.46 ERA this spring.
Tony Campana and Ben Kerr have hit safely in each of the last three games. Campana is riding a season-high nine game hitting streak and is 11-for-his last 28 (.393). Elliott Arrington leads the team in hitting with a .343 average and is second on the team with 16 RBI. Josh Coyle is hitting .341 and leads the club with four home runs and 25 RBI.
The Volunteers (23-9) have won five of their last six games since falling to UNC Asheville on March 30, in Knoxville. Eli Iorg, son of big leaguer Garth Iorg continues to lead the Vols in hitting with a .387 average. He has nine home runs and 36 RBI on the season. Julio Borbon, Chase Headley, and Josh Ally are all hitting over .380 on the season. J.P. Arencibia is second on the team with seven home runs and 34 RBI. As a team, Tennessee is hitting .337 on the year. Left-hander Mike Kerfeld will make his first start of the season on Wednesday.
