Derrick Everhart

Derrick started his coaching responsibilities in the fall of 2017 with the UNC Asheville cheer and dance team. Derrick came to UNC Asheville from Mars Hill University where he was the head cheerleading coach from 2012-16. A graduate of Mars Hill, Derrick earned his Bachelor of Arts in Music in 2002. Derrick was a member of the Mars Hill cheerleading team and served as co-captain in 2004 and captain from 2005 until 2007 and then was selected to be a student coach in 2008. Derrick was honored in 2005 to receive the Student Athletic Achievement Award as well as the team MVP in 2006 and 2007. While at Mars Hill, Derrick led the cheerleading team to its first competition where they finished second at the Clash of the Carolinas cheerleading competition in the co-ed division. During his tenure, the program also earned bronze and silver bids at NCA camp to attend nationals.    

Prior to coaching at Mars Hill, Derrick was the Spirit Advisor at Lenoir-Rhyne University in Hickory, N.C. He built the spirit program to more than 20 cheerleaders in two short years. Derrick has more than 10 years of cheerleading experience and has worked with the Universal Cheerleading Association (UCA) and National Cheerleading Association (NCA) and he has coached high school scholastic cheer and All-Star cheerleading. Derrick has taught many stunt clinics throughout Western North Carolina focusing on skill progression and technique. Derrick is AACCA certified and he holds a USASF level 4 certification. Derrick is also CPR/AED certified.

Derrick works in higher education as a financial aid professional and lives in Asheville with his dog Max. Â
