Second Half Goals Boost Bulldogs to Season-Opening Draw with Wofford on Wednesday

ASHEVILLE, N.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Soccer saw a pair of second half goals boost them to a season-opening 2-2 draw with Wofford Wednesday night (Aug. 12) at Greenwood Field.

The teams spent the first 20 minutes of the match attempting to make runs in the offensive ends, before Wofford finally was able to score the first goal of the contest in the 26th minute. Maya Lake and Julia Grier worked a ball down the near wing, before Grier played the ball across the box to find Satya Tarafdar who scored for a 1-0 Terriers lead. Wofford held the first half edge in shots 6-4, while Asheville posted two corners to Wofford's one in the opening half as Wofford led 1-0 through 45 minutes.

Wofford struck quick for a 2-0 lead in the second half, as Brooke Moody would score from distance in the 47th minute to double the Terriers lead. Asheville responded quickly for their first goal of the season, when a free kick set up Lili Adams on the far wing to play the ball in. The ball was played into a crowd, then edged on by Campbell Stoll finding Manuela Schreier in space on the left side of the box. Schreier stashed home her first of the season and second of her career to the top shelf to get the Bulldogs on the board and cut the deficit in half, while Stoll collected her first helper of the season and fifth of her career.
The teams would trade possessions and chances over the next 40 minutes, as Asheville tried to collect one last gasp maneuvering out of their defensive end. The Bulldogs were able to flip the field and generate some offensive pressure, before a ball was played into a crowd again in the box in the 87th minute. Lilly Graumann would get a foot on it before it was blocked to Maleigh Dawson, who rifled a shot back in that caught a piece of Graumann on the way and deflected in for the equalizer.

Asheville edged Wofford 12-10 in shots in the match, with each team putting four shots on frame in the contest. The Bulldogs also edged the Terriers 3-2 in corner kicks in the contest. Graumann logged a new career-high with four shots in the match, while Arna Hogarth-Scott registered three shots in her Bulldog debut. Schreier posted two shots in the contest, while Kathleen Doane and Alexa Francis each had one shot in the match for Asheville. London Phoenix (0-0-1) made two saves in her collegiate debut.
