Tyler Guidry Joins UNC Asheville Men's Basketball Coaching Staff

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Head Men's Basketball Coach Mike Morrell has announced the addition of Tyler Guidry to the Bulldogs' coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Guidry arrives in Asheville after serving as an assistant coach at Nicholls State during the 2025-26 season. Prior to his time at Nicholls State, he spent the 2024-25 campaign at Sam Houston State, where he played an integral role in player development, recruiting and roster retention while helping cultivate a strong team culture.
Before joining Sam Houston State, Guidry spent two seasons as an assistant coach at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV) from 2022-24. During his tenure, he oversaw recruiting, academic support and community outreach while also developing the program's defensive strategies and performance analytics.
Guidry's coaching experience also includes four successful seasons as the head boys basketball coach at Westbury Christian School in Houston, Texas. Under his leadership, the program emphasized player development, academic achievement and preparing student-athletes for opportunities at the collegiate level. His efforts earned him Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) 4A Coach of the Year honors in 2021.
He began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach at Wiley College during the 2017-18 season, where he assisted with recruiting, admissions, player development and day-to-day program operations.
In addition to his collegiate experience, Guidry has been heavily involved in youth basketball throughout Texas, working with Houston Defenders AAU, Houston Hoopstars AAU and the Houston Big Man Academy while directing youth basketball camps.
A native of Texas, Guidry earned his bachelor's degree in accounting from Nelson University in 2015 before completing his Master of Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas in 2017.
