Harrison Cooper Named Big South Conference Freshman of the Week

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville's Harrison Cooper has been named the Big South Conference Men's Tennis Freshman of the Week, announced by the league today (Wednesday, Mar. 4, 2026).

Asheville dropped a 7-0 match to ETSU on Wednesday (Feb. 25), before falling 4-0 to Kennesaw State on Friday (Feb. 27) and rallying from 3-1 down to beat North Carolina Central 4-3 on Saturday (Feb. 28).

Cooper teamed up with Griffin Lovern in the North Carolina Central match at No. 1 doubles, starting play off beating Rodrigo Alves and Kareen Abdul Hakim 6-4. Cooper would then step up at No. 4 singles and be the hero in the match, pulling off a 7-5, 2-6, 6-1 win over Montiel for the Bulldog win.

This is Cooper's first career Freshman of the Week honor. The Derby, Great Britain native is an economics major.

The Bulldogs (4-4) return to action on Saturday (Mar. 7) to face Stonehill in non-conference action. First serve is set for 5:00 p.m. from the Turner Tennis Center at Patriots Point in Charleston, S.C.
