Harrison Cooper Earns Big South Conference Freshman of the Week Honors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - UNC Asheville's Harrison Cooper has earned Big South Conference Men's Tennis Freshman of the Week honors, announced by the league today (Wednesday, Mar. 25). This marks four straight Freshman of the Week honors for the Bulldogs between Cooper and teammate Daniel Franco-Key, setting a program record for the most Freshman of the Week honors both consecutively and in one season.
 
Asheville went 2-1 in duals last week, with a 5-2 win over North Carolina A&T last Thursday (Mar. 19), a 6-1 win at Queens (N.C.) last Friday (Mar. 20) and a 5-2 loss to Longwood on Saturday (Mar. 21).
 
Cooper went 2-1 at No. 1 doubles with Griffin Lovern, with a 7-6 (8-6) win over North Carolina A&T and a 6-4 win at Queens. Cooper also went 3-0 in singles play between No. 4 and No. 5, with a 6-1, 6-4 win against A&T at No. 5, a 5-7, 6-1, 6-2 win against Queens at No. 4 and a 6-4, 7-5 win against Longwood at No. 5.
 
This is Cooper's second career Freshman of the Week honor. The Derby, Great Britain native is an economics major.
 
The Bulldogs (10-5, 0-1 Big South) return to action on Friday (Mar. 27) at James Madison. First serve is set for 9:00 a.m. from Harrisonburg, Va. with live stats available at www.uncabulldogs.com.
