Double Figures Galore Powers Bulldogs Past Presbyterian on Saturday

CLINTON, S.C. - UNC Asheville Women's Basketball saw four double-figure scorers help the Bulldogs power past Presbyterian by a score of 64-53 on Saturday (Jan. 17). This marks the third time this season that the Bulldogs have posted four double-figure scorers in the same game. Journee McDaniel also scored her 500th career point in the win.
 
Asheville jumped out to a 7-2 lead through three minutes, before the teams would trade scores heading into the final two and a half minutes. Asheville scored five of the quarter's final eight points to take a 19-14 lead to the break.
 
Kristen McMillan scored the first five points of the second quarter to push Asheville's lead into double-digits, before Presbyterian rallied to get the game back within four with three and a half minutes gone in the quarter. The teams traded scores through the remainder of the second quarter, as Asheville went to the locker room up 35-25.
 
Asheville doubled up Presbyterian 20-10 in the third quarter to take a 20-point lead to the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs opened the quarter on a 9-2 run leading up to the media timeout, before the Bulldogs would close the quarter on the small run to build the lead headed to the fourth quarter.
 
After Asheville briefly pushed the lead further in the fourth quarter, before Presbyterian ended the game on a 13-4 run that ultimately brought the game to its final score.
 
The Bulldogs shot 40.0 percent (18-45) from the field, 41.7 percent (5-12) from long range and 69.7 percent (23-33) from the foul line in the game. Asheville outscored Presbyterian 17-12 on second chances, 13-12 on fast breaks and 17-14 off the bench in the game while also scoring 20 points off turnovers and 22 points in the paint. Nia Green paced the Bulldogs with 15 points in the game to eclipse 400 points for her college career, while McDaniel and McMillan each had 12 points in the game with McDaniel registering a career-best day at the charity stripe (5-6). Dy'anna Maxey added 10 points in the game, while Jamaria Freeman also had eight points. Aileen Marquez scored three points in the game, while Deborah Orianegbena had two and Clementina Odom and Trinity Fields each had one. Asheville out-rebounded Presbyterian 44-25 in the game, led by eight boards from Orianegbena and seven from Green. Freeman pulled in six boards in the win, while McDaniel also had five. McMillan had four rebounds in the game, while Marquez had three and Odom and Sara Yarnell each had two. Fields and Taliya Council each had one rebound in the game. Green led the offense with four assists in the game, while Freeman and Marquez each had two and Maxey also had one. Maxey registered a career-high five steals in the game, while Freeman also had two and Green, McDaniel, Orianegbena, Fields, Yarnell and Council each recorded one. Odom and Yarnell each posted blocks in the game for Asheville.
