ASHEVILLE, N.C. – UNC Asheville Athletics will honor the life and legacy of longtime supporter and advocate Wilma M. Sherrill with a Celebration of Life presentation during the Bulldogs' men's basketball game on Saturday, Jan. 17, at Kimmel Arena.
The on-court tribute will take place during the first media timeout and will recognize Sherrill's profound and lasting impact on UNC Asheville, its athletics programs, and the broader Western North Carolina community. Wilma's family—including her husband, Jerry, her daughter, Jill, and other family members—will be present as the Bulldogs honor her remarkable legacy.
Sherrill, who passed away on Dec. 18, 2025, at the age of 86, was a champion of UNC Asheville for decades. Her advocacy and leadership were instrumental in advancing the University and its athletics department, most notably through her role in securing state funding for what is now the Wilma M. Sherrill Center, home to Kimmel Arena and the North Carolina Center for Health and Wellness.
The Celebration of Life presentation will serve as a thank you to Sherrill and her family, honoring a legacy defined by service, generosity, and an unwavering belief in UNC Asheville and its student-athletes.
