ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The UNC Asheville volleyball team was back in the Justice Center on Saturday (Sept. 6) for the final day of the Bulldog Invitational and fell to Furman in four sets (15-25, 20-25, 25-19, 18-25).
Furman (4-2) controlled the early momentum, taking the opening set 25-15 behind efficient hitting and a string of early runs. Asheville responded in the second set and kept it close, but the Paladins used a late push to pull away, 25-20.
The Bulldogs (1-5) found their rhythm in the third set, hitting .344 as a team while limiting errors. Timely kills from Baylor Herlehy and Albertine van der Goot helped Asheville extend its lead late, and the Bulldogs secured the frame 25-19 to force a fourth.
In the deciding set, Furman relied on the duo of Lindsay Walch and Tennyson Gorman, who combined for nine of Furman's 17 kills in the fourth frame. The Paladins held off a late Asheville rally, as Furman led by eight (20-12) before Asheville made it a four-point contest (22-18). Furman closed the match by scoring the final three points of the game.
Kylie Cackovic led Asheville with 13 kills and added 12 digs for her second double-double of the season. Van der Goot followed with nine kills, Addie Brookbank had eight, and Herlehy had six kills and a team-high five block assists. Michelle Thao finished with 18 digs, Selena Koç had 18 assists, and Payton Rolfsen had 13.
